Another nail in the “telco cannot provide customised services” folder. Windstream sells its consumer business:
“This transaction enables us to divest a non-core segment and focus exclusively on our two largest business units. In addition, it improves our credit profile and metrics in 2019 and beyond,” said Tony Thomas, president and CEO of Windstream.
As before, this is relevant to telco’s who think that SDWAN is the same as selling managed routers. I would say that SDWAN operations require high levels of customisation and large number of experienced people to deliver.
Telco’s haven’t been able to do that in the main. Some have small business units ( a few 100’s MM at most) that run at small profit margins but useful for maintaining customer control before get bored of them and complaining about poor profit margins before selling them off.
