Three Sentences

Three Sentences is my personal policy that all email responses regardless of recipient or subject will be three sentences or less. It’s that simple.

I write a lot and read a lot. I need to work less and do more. Just like you. 

Email is part of the problem, therefore less email would be better. Therefore I will not reply to an email unless absolutely necessary. I won’t give an opinion unless asked. I won’t offer advice, or “chime in”. I delete email that has no action for me.

Clear it down and move on. Let’s do something else.

The Email Problem

E-mail takes too long to respond to, can be misinterpreted and results in continuous inbox overflow for those who receive a lot of it or need to concentrate on detailed tasks.

My Solution

Treat all email responses like SMS text messages, using a set number of letters per response is one idea. Since it is too hard to count letters, I count sentences instead.

Email is target and brief. It’s curt, to the point, and focussed.

It’s not rude, blunt, impolite or offensive. It’s just time saving.
