More comedy for IT Security. The total costs for Target for their massive breach in 2013 is just $202MM.
So that total costs is roughly $20MM per year for a decade. How much money did Target save by not having a serious, strong and high quality security strategy ? Something in the order of $500MM or $40MM/annum at a guess for a company of that size?
Retailer Target Corp reached an $18.5 million settlement with 47 states and the District of Columbia over a massive data breach in late 2013.
The cost of securing the poor quality IT Assets that we have today is disproportionate to cost of what is protected. Basically, security costs too much.
Target also said the total cost of the data breach had been $202 million.
Not too shabby.
