According to the summary of a report from Dell’oro:
According to a recently published Data Center Appliance quarterly report by Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, the WAN Optimization (WANOP) market declined 12 percent sequentially in first quarter 2014 due to seasonality and softening demand.
Every time I stated this on the podcast I received email stating I was wrong.
Primary factor: Bandwidth is getting cheaper and makes WanOp less attractive. Licensing by bandwidth/CPU doubles down on the problem.
- network complexity and scale makes WanOp harder to consume.
- We are in a market transition and customer attention (and budgets!) are focussed on other technology like private clouds, SDN etc.
