I have been talking about the value of well designed interfaces in network monitoring tools for a few years because the current generation is badly designed. I’m wasting a lot of time getting through the pain barrier before the software becomes useful. (Thinking of SDN software platforms in particular like NSX, ACI etc).
Vendors of Enterprise software simply don’t bother with user experience and interface experts which makes their products downright hard to use. Software engineers can do a fair job but its time to get serious about customer reality.
So this report from Kleiner Perkins is a breath of fresh air when it talks about the value of design in terms of improving survival, profits, and revenue of companies who have embraced real design in their process and leadership.
Take 10 minutes to flip through these slides and see if you agree with me that network management tools and SDN interfaces should have better usability.
