Network ZEN: Management or Monitoring

20th January 2010 By Greg Ferro Filed Under: Blog, Musing

The Zen Master was meditating over his network and at oneness with the Flow of packets.

A student approached the Master and asked “May I not implement monitoring on the Network so that we may measure the quantity of the Flow? ”

The Master thought for a long while, breathing deeply and considering the flow. And he spoke “It is not how much of the flow that is important but our ability to comprehend the patterns of purpose in the flow that is vital to our work. We must not only monitor the quantity, our purpose is to Manage”

And the student was enlightened.
