Broad term to describe networking vendors who always ensure that a Sales Person is accompanied by a Network Engineer aka “four legged”.
This is sometimes also describes as “two brained sales person” since the customer can get different stories/commitments depending on who answers the questions.
Points of note:
- A four legged sales team is expensive so there is a lot of profit margin in selling those products.
- The network engineer is ostensibly there to assist the customer with any technical issues but actually is there to ensure that the sales person is not making promises the company cannot delivery.
- Customer relationships are less likely to be lost through a transition when someone leaves the business.
So if your vendor uses the four-legged model, then the product has a lot of profit margin built in. Act accordingly.
