Huawei is offering software defined campus product as
- configuration/operations app and
- an analytics engine in addition to
- hardware using custom silicon.
Strikingly similarities to the Cisco SD-Access offering. Does this validate the Cisco approach as the right approach or a simple copy (to reduce marketing effort). I do think Cisco has an edge in the security capability though through the cloud security capabilities available.
Huawei’s Intent-Driven CloudCampus adopts the ‘Intelligent, Simplified, Converged, Secure, and Open’ design concepts and launches two campus modules, namely, the brand-new campus network insight engine CampusInsight and the campus network automation solution Software-Defined Campus (SD-Campus). CampusInsight helps build a predictive, self-healing closed-loop system with added visibility for each user in real-time. SD-Campus implements full-lifecycle automation of physical and virtual networks from planning and deployment to O&M.
I think SDN in the Campus (SD-Campus/SD-Access) is going to be faster the SDN in the DC but less than SD-WAN. Huawei is certainly laying out a vision here. Unfortunately a lot of documentation is locked behind a regwall or the documentation doesn’t actually exist ( a common problem with Huawei networking). Also, there is no contact listed
This press release goes on to talk about Version 2.0 of the platform, I’m not sure if this means they are ahead of Cisco SD-Access although its possible but I can’t work it out from available information.
