EtherealMind’s 2013 Photographic Year in Review – Because I Can’t Be Bothered Writing About It

1st January 2014 By Greg Ferro Filed Under: Blog

I’m not a big fan of looking backwards, checking my belly button fluff and wondering what might have happened. New Years is an unhappy time because all I can see is the things I didn’t do, didn’t achieve, goals unreached & challenges unmet. Every year feels like failure because not everything got done.

On the other hand, I’m not dead, I’m in good health and I’m still got a chance next year. Good enough.

I took a lot of crap photos in 2013 but they make a good summary of what happened. Consider this my “Year in Review” blog post.

I spent a lot of time in cheap, crappy hotel rooms in London that are narrow and uncomfortable.
More Whiteboard Sessions – A life spent on whiteboards is why I want to work from home. What’s wrong with screen sharing and other electronic tools ?
Theatre in London – Family Trips to London always include visits to the theatre. And I love these buildings.
Steve and Hugo at Canopy Cloud – One of the best places I’ve ever worked. Fantastic experience and great colleagues.
Cisco Live London – The stage at Cisco Live in London. I actually got to sit in sessions at this Cisco Live and learned about LISP.
Catalyst 6500 T-Shirt – Matt gave me this t-shirt at the meet up we organised during Cisco Live. Because he knows how much I “love”ยก them.
Stroud Train Station – I’ve wasted hours here waiting for trains to someone else’s office.
Network Field Day Five with Ethan – Ethan & I don’t actually get to meet in person very often. Even then, we don’t get to spend a lot of time catching up. This is a rare occasion at #NFD5.
Network Field Day Five – Again, with Stephen Foskett in front of the limo hat carries us around Silicon Valley. It’s the only way to go!
#BeerOClock – Surprise. I drink beer.
Great Portland Street Tube Station – Because London still seems like a thing even after living here for 8 years.
This diagram in my notebook was the start of my ebook on blogging – Arse First Guide To Technical Blogging – you should buy it.
Cisco Live Orlando – Packet Pushers went to Cisco Live and covered a lot of stuff. Lots of fun, met lots of people.
Yuppet – the SDN Unicorn. – “Show now on the puppet where the bad SDN touched you”
More presentations – Because presentations are what we do. Right ?
Cisco Router Tatto on Leg – Sadly, I can’t remember who this is.
Podcasting at Cisco Live Orlando – Recording a show at Cisco Live 2013 in San Diego
Engineers Unplugged Recording an Engineers Unplugged with Amy Lewis from Cisco on overlay networking
Bob McCouch wanted a photo so here it is!
Holidays in Greece-1 – Such a great photo and reminds me of the entire holidays
Holidays in Greece- Cisco beach towel. It’s the only beach towel I own.
Holidays in Greece- That is my feet. Awesome.
I have no idea that putting your feet on the wall was a thing.
Summer Time at Home – This is the view from my house in summer. Today, it’s cold and wet and I need reminding.
Broken iPhone – I dropped my iPhone in July or so. /sad face/
IETF and Lacks of Standard – because standards matter
My Desk – What I face most days of the week.
More whiteboarding. It never ends.
My second hand Aeron chair that is at the bottom of my success. This is my best ever technology purchase.
My Favourite boots wore out this year. These were the only pair of shoes I owned when we arrived int the UK in 2005 and I couldn’t afford to buy more for two years.
A Tim Tam Wrapped in bacon for breakfast at Network Field Day. YOLO.
Network Field Day 6 – I don’t know but it’s something.
Network Field Day 6 – Meeting Scott Lowe
Being foolish at GigaOm StructureConf – I’m good at looking foolish.
GigaOm StructureConf London – I presented in this room. Another scary thing I’ve done.
Interop New York – I presented two sessions at Interop New York on content that I wrote and developed. I did well enough to be invited back to Las Vegas in 2014.
Interop New York – I talk with my hands. Not joking when we say that we “wave our hands at the virtual whiteboard” on the show.
Press Conference in Nice, France – Conference was OK. Photo is great.
Working in the Data Center – Because I still do real work and love it.
More Whiteboarding – Because it’s what we do.
Gave a presentation at UK VMUG. It didn’t suck.

Hi Greg, just a small point. You were at Cisco Live Orlando in 2013. It was my pleasure to meet you there.

Echoing Tom’s comments, I enjoyed chatting with both you and Ethan and meeting fellow Packetpusher community members at Cisco Live! Hope to see you all again in San Francisco.
