- Russian hairdresser turns stickup merchant into sex slave • The Register – So funny in so many ways. Comedians will be using this for laughs!
- Facebook Users Get Worse Grades in College | LiveScience – This post talks about research into Facebook users at American Colleges who get significantly lower grades, on average, than others. Two sides to this I think – one is that low achievers or people who are unable to focus, will find something, anything that distracts them. What is invidious about Facebook is the degree you can fool yourself that you are doing something useful. For example, sitting in a bar from two in the afternoon is clearly avoiding doing any work. SItting at your desk but not achieving any quality study time – that lets you fool yourself into thinking you "did study".
My attention span for social media is now very small. Facebook is just for people to find me, but I am not going to have a relationship, or a "conversation" with old friends. I would use email or the phone for that.
