I have two announcements about the EtherealMind RSS feed. I mean, you all have a RSS reader, right ?
RSS Feed Changes
Starting Monday ( 22 July 2013 ) , I’ll be changing the RSS feed configuration to move away from the Google Feedburner service. Google has shown signs of abandoning the Feedburner product so it is time to start a gradual migration process. My testing shows that you, dear reader, should not have to change anything as I will put a permanent 301 redirection in place. A good RSS reader should detect the 301 redirection and update it’s configuration.
Today, there are about 5000 subscribers who follow EtherealMind.com using RSS so this is a serious change. If you cannot see any more posts after this post then add the following URL manually http://etherealmind.com/feed/ to your RSS reader.
Full Articles in the RSS Feed
I’m going to start an extended trial of full content published into the RSS feed for at least two months starting from today. In the past, I’ve always published excerpts which means that readers needed to click through from the RSS feed and visit the web page. I did this for three valuable reasons:
- I can judge whether regular readers interested in a particular topic. 40% of my audience are regular and repeat readers. Certain topics generate a lot more hits than others and this is a way of judging what content is more or less interesting over time.
- Click-through leads to more pageviews leads to improved ad revenue. It’s not much but it’s something. My daughters need shoes.
- Click-through to the blog page leads to more engagement through the sidebar with other content. More views means more “social media influence”.
Social media influence is something that I have to choke on since it is unpalatable activity. But I work for a startup company (Packet Pushers Interactive LLC ) that relies on my social media exposure to generate vendor interest and listener growth. So I’ll just get down to business and accept that your attention to my content is part of my role. Welcome to the Social Internet people.
And, of course, thanks to everyone for following EtherealMind. I’m looking forward to continuing with more writing, articles and technology for the foreseeable future.
