Service Models – “Pets and Cattle”

I was reading this presentation on Data Centre Evolution from CERN and found this idea of Service Models to be very human and practical. Most companies have “dev” and “prod” but this separates the function from the usage which is practical.

At the operational level, someone can easily identify a tactical response to a system failure just from the name of the server.

Good human-oriented thinking for an SDN service model. Find the presentation at CERN Data Centre Evolution
