Network Dictionary – The Point of Know Return

Not all changes to infrastructure can be rolled back. Not all upgrades or changes can be reversed and the point of “No Return” is often specified during change planning for these events.

The “Point of Know Return” is the point that the engineer might be doing something “out of process” or varying from the plan and realises that the change cannot be backed out (or at least, not easily or causes a service disruption to roll back).

As such, the engineer might be the only person who knows that the “Point of Know Return” has been reached …….
