Far Horizon Design describes the technique for making network design decisions for business applications that last longer than the technology. For example, a power station has a life of thirty years minimum, and possibly up to fifty years, the IT technology choices or strategies are never going to last that long, and you need to continually evaluate the modularity of your systems and look for opportunities that allow flexibility ( even when the operational service does not need or want flexibility ).
Derived from the fact that you can never see the horizon, and it keeps moving away from you the closer you get to it.
