The CEO of Barclays bank is being punished for playing petty internal politics at boardroom level:
Jes Staley twice attempted to use Barclay’s internal security team to track down the authors of two anonymous letters sent to the board and a senior executive at the bank last June. On the second occasion, the security team received assistance from a US law enforcement agency, but still failed to identify the whistleblowers.
Couple of thoughts occur to me:
- The CEO is, rightly to my mind, being punished but I wonder if the IT people are implicated or suffered because of this ?
- I may or may not have conducted similar work during my time as in network security. I’ve always been concerned when executing these requests about the personal liability involved in doing work as directed by company officers.
- Executives are not to be trusted.
