Many managers do not see the return on investment. But, they often don't set goals on the return. I think that if there was more of this, there would be more money allocated.

Greg, insightful and a great post. I feel often we are asked to do tasks at our jobs with no training or very little learning support. We are expected to learn it on the job and take the training initiative on our shoulder with out much reward. Network world or Tech Republic had an article couple of days back on 10 worst things about IT field where one of the surveys showed that many of the IT personal has to pay for training out of their own pocket. For some reason or another lot of the IT Managers do not see the value of training their employee.

Great post Greg, most of your posts are good but this one is top notch. Only thing I would disagree with if I interpreted it right is reviewing firewall rules and watching the Olympics. Both of them are very enjoyable and it was especially good to watch the success of Team GB.
