I saw this picture today titled “Blue Sky Thinking”. I was struck by its Cloud Computing references…..

what you FIRST see
…is a three guys who do REAL work (because they are dirty, see those jackets, that’s honest dirt there), staring up at the sky. The colours make a striking visual effect contrasting the lush blue of the sky.
Look a bit more closely….
The bloke on the left is holding his back, he is obviously in pain and might actually be stretching. The second guy isn’t looking at the sky at all, he looking off to the right with a decidedly bored set to to his shoulders. And the third guy, his arms are well back as if to say, “what is hell am I looking at”.
Cloud Computing Reference
This is pretty close to what customers think of Cloud Computing.
- I’ll take a break from my problems and see if there is something nice out there to look at. Oh look, a shiny thing!
- Boring, seen it all before. It the same as what was there yesterday and will still be there tomorrow.
- What’s all the fuss about ? I can’t see it ?
The punchline
Frankly, Cloud Computing isn’t funny and I can’t find any humour in it.
The level of marketing hype has transcended reality and we are verging on another Vista-like farce. A major, multi-year storage provider filefront.com shutdown today…. another Cloud Computing failure.
It’s time for Cloud Computing boosters and social marketers to shutup and get some work done. Call me when you have something real to tell me.
