It’s not only supported on the Catalyst 6500 platform anymore, Cisco VTP version 3 is now supported in IOS 12.2(52)SE for the Catalyst 3750, 3560, 2975, and 2960 Switches.

Looks like Cisco is giving VTP another chance, a very good decision in my opinion.
